A Mum & Daughter Barbershop in Wallasey
We’re Michelle and Shelbie - a mum and daughter-run barbershop based on Poulton Road in Wallasey, and between us we’ve got nearly 50 years of barbering experience.
The shop has been part of the Wallasey community for 35 years, and in that time it’s become more than just a place to get a haircut. It’s somewhere people come for a chat, for routine, for confidence, and sometimes just for a bit of time out.
We cut men’s hair, children’s hair (boys and girls), first haircuts, and we also offer sensory and quiet appointments for people who need a calmer environment.
But if we’re honest, this job has never just been about haircuts for us - it’s always been about people.
So we thought instead of writing a boring “About Us”, we’d do this a bit differently.

How long have you been a barber?
Over 40 years - which makes me sound very old, but I started very young!
How did the shop start?
I opened my first shop in 1991 when I was 22 years old. I lived above the shop and worked long days building it up. It was hard work, but I loved it, and somehow 35 years later I’m still here.
What do you love most about the job?
The people. Watching families grow up and seeing generations come through the door - that’s very special.
What’s the hardest part of the job?
Standing up all day!
What are you known for in the shop?
Talking with my long time clients.
Favourite type of haircut?
A good short back and sides - you can’t beat a classic.
Tea or coffee?
Tea.
Best part about working with your daughter?
I get to see her every day - and I’m very proud of her.
Shelbie (Daughter)
How long have you been a barber?
Around 9 years.
What do you love most about the job?
Making people feel comfortable. Especially children who are nervous when they leave smiling, that’s the best feeling.
What are you known for in the shop?
Probably being the running around behind the scenes haha.
Favourite type of haircut?
I like doing children’s haircuts and seeing their confidence grow over time.
Most rewarding part of the job?
When someone tells me their haircut has given them confidence.

We’ve been every 6 weeks to see Shelby for our sons sensory haircut and the progress our son had made is incredible! Shelby has incredible patience, the selection of toys caters for all, routine is key as we see her every 5-6 weeks. Wouldn’t go to anyone else. Thank you!
Shelby is an absolute a star and Bob always looks forward to coming to see her she makes such a fuss of him and it always comes out so happy and full of smiles and a great new hair cut would never go anywhere else! 💕💕💕

Started getting mine and my 2 year old sons haircut a few months back, service we have received every time has been excellent, couldn’t fault them. My son loves the haircut car and Shelbie is so patient and kind with him. Highly recommend!
The best barbers for sensitive kids! Shell and Shelbie are both amazing with kids, I’d never take my boys anywhere else now. My little one struggled so much with hair cuts, kicking and screaming the entire time (even then we weren’t made to feel bad or guilty, they persevered and managed to cut his hair!), but we avoided haircuts until they were absolutely necessary. We started sensory cuts 10 months ago, and have been going every month, and now he happily sits in the chair and has his hair cut with clippers. Having the whole space to ourselves, the routine and familiarity is massive to help him feel safe and comfortable and nothing is ever too much and you never feel rushed. Not to mention the effort that is put in to make the shop look fun and inviting for little ones with toys, books, sensory lights, Netflix and Lightening McQueen to sit in! Thank you for turning a stressful and sometimes traumatic experience into something that is looked forward to and enjoyed ☺️☺️☺️
I've been going to Just for Men for many years .The staff are extremely helpful and take pride in their work. They look after their clients and are super friendly.
Nothing is too much trouble and they have a lovely relationship with young children and even provide distractions for children who maybe anxious or have anxiety issues or autism.
When I've been in the barbers the children appear happy to be playing on the consoles or watching a video.
The owner is very accomadating and will always have a lovely smile for you
